Wednesday #03

Fed up with the negativity going around in Bollywood? Don't you worry, we have a set to lift your mood up. Guess it's time to shift to Hollywood movies... What say?

So here are the questions for today!

Q1) It was a box-office disappointment, earning only $16 million during its initial theatrical run. Many reasons were cited for its failure at the time, including competition from films such as Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump, to lack of female characters, and even the title, which was considered to be confusing for audiences. But later, it went on to receive multiple award nominations, including seven Academy Award nominations.

One of the most famous quotes from the movie (and my personal favourite) is “Get busy living or get busy dying”.
Which movie?

Q2)

According to the legend, in 1928 MGM's art director Cedric Gibbons, one of the original Motion Picture Academy members, was tasked with creating this. In need of a model, Gibbons was introduced by his future wife, actress Dolores del Río, to Fernández as he had a very athletic build. Reportedly, Fernández had to be persuaded to model nude for it. It is ironic that perhaps one of the most iconic things in Hollywood is actually Mexican!
What is being talked about here?

Q3) Funky Flashman is a fictional character, an entrepreneur in the DC Universe. Created by Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in the pages of Mister Miracle during the early 1970s.
He has no superhuman powers. However, he is very charismatic, charming and a skilled businessman. Nothing is known about Funky’s past except that he and his sidekick Houseroy (popularly considered to be a caricature of Roy Thomas) were business associates of a Colonel Mockingbird.

Funky is popularly considered a satiric caricature of?

Q4) X says, “I think ‘Y’ is a beautiful film and it looks terrific and as I’ve said before, it’s like a big, beautiful Cadillac with no engine inside it. I kept my mouth shut at the time, but I didn’t care for it much”

X has said the female character in the film is “One of the most misogynistic characters ever put on film. She's basically just there to scream and be stupid and that's not the woman that I wrote about.” and has described the director’s film as being “very cold” (which indeed it was).

X hated Y so much, he produced his own miniseries of the film in 1997 (which was met with mixed reviews). X, Y?

Q5) Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas's Star Wars media franchise. Observance of the commemorative day spread quickly through media and grassroots celebrations. The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" as "May the Fourth be with you". Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm and parent company Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.

The pun doesn’t stop here. Some recognize the following day, May 5, as “___________________________", a play on Star Wars: Episode III and other villainous characters from the Star Wars series rather than the Jedi.
Others celebrate this one day later, on May 6, citing “________________________" as a play on the trilogy aspect of the Star Wars films.

Q6)X spent several weeks learning to fight in a corridor that spun like “a giant hamster wheel”  . Nolan said of the device, “It was like some incredible torture device; we thrashed him for weeks, but in the end we looked at the footage, and it looks unlike anything any of us has seen before. The rhythm of it is unique, and when you watch it, even if you know how it was done, it confuses your perceptions. It’s unsettling in a wonderful way”.
Guess the actor and the movie. Quite easy or is it?Or is it easy quite? Or maybe not? Or maybe it is? Maybe it's one in the other.... (Take this as a hint!)
